General Information on Compression Garments

As we all know strenuous physical exercise, such as running, can induce muscle damage that is often manifested as soreness. Muscle damage can lead to decreased range of motion, swelling and impaired muscle function, all increasing the likelihood of injury. Compression may be able to reduce the physical impact and damage associated with strenuous physical activity if worn during the event/exercise.

Compression garments are also being used for recovery purposes. A world leading expert in the field of recovery, William Kraemer has suggested that compression may assist recovery of injured tissues in several ways. Firstly, compression has the ability to reduce oedema (abnormal accumulation of fluid in  the tissues or cavities of the body) by applying an external pressure gradient and reducing space available for swelling to accumulate. Secondly, compression can provide mechanical support that is able to facilitate the capacity to produce force, critical for recovery and rehabilitation.

Studies by the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) on itsports tights are currently being undertaken and within the coming months should be finalised but to date, the results so far are very encouraging.

If the question was asked what sets our tights apart from the others we would say:

4. The design and stitching is designed to allow our garment to separate the three major lower body muscle groups on each leg (thigh, hamstring and calf)

Wearing itsports Tights - Training and Recovery

Training

itsports tights reduce the movement of muscles hence reducing the likelihood of injury (as described above).

Recovery

After games or strenuous exercise the most important time for recovery is the next 45 minutes. Ice baths were introduced many years ago to aid recovery. Itsports tights are designed to work by creating compression on the muscles and reducing the size if oedema. Our gradient compression within the itsports tights increase the blood flow throughout the body. Our anecdotal reasearch so far indicates that when athletes sleep in itsports tights there muscle soreness is reduced dramatically.
